Statement of Faith

The Resting Place is a community that loves God, loves people, and loves one another. We are a non-denominational, contemporary, Acts 2 church that is committed to expositional preaching. We believe the Gospel is the center of all human existence and the focus of everything we do.

EPHESIANS 4:11-12

“And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.”

2 CORINTHIANS 5:20

“We are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”

1 CORINTHIANS 15:1–4

“Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you — unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.”

The doctrines contained in this Statement of Faith represent what we believe to be the core elements of biblical teaching.

  • We believe in one God, eternally existing as three co-equal, co-eternal persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — each fully God, one in essence, distinct in person and role.

    The Father is Creator and sovereign ruler of all. The Son is fully God and fully man, crucified, risen, ascended, and returning. The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and Son, gives new life, and dwells permanently within all who believe.

    Deuteronomy 6:4

    “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.”

    2 Corinthians 13:14

    “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”

    Matthew 28:18–20

    “And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’”

  • We believe the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired, inerrant Word of God — the final authority for all we believe and do.

    Scripture is the revealed will of God. It is to be believed, obeyed, and trusted. No decision or direction may contradict it. The Holy Spirit opens our minds to understand it.

    2 Peter 1:20–21

    “knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”

    Hebrews 4:12

    “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

    Luke 24:45

    “Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.”

  • We believe all people inherit a corrupt nature radically opposed to God, standing under His righteous condemnation.

    Sin entered through one man and spread to all. It extends to the mind and will. The law of God identifies sin and exposes our need for a savior, but cannot save us.

    Romans 5:12

    “Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.”

    Jeremiah 17:9

    “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?”

  • We believe salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Christ died as a substitutionary sacrifice — bearing our punishment, satisfying God’s justice, and justifying all who trust in Him.

    Faith is a gift of God’s grace. Obedience is the fruit of salvation, not its ground. Justification is instantaneous and complete. Sanctification is ongoing and the work of the Spirit.

    Romans 5:8

    “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

    Titus 3:5–6

    “he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior.”

    Ephesians 2:8-9

    For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

  • We believe the Holy Spirit is fully God, the source of all spiritual power for the believer, and necessary for the mission of the church.

    He convicts, regenerates, seals the believer at saving faith, and empowers our witness.

    Romans 8:11

    “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.”

    John 14:16–17

    “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.”

    Acts 1:8

    “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

  • We believe the Church is the body of Christ, empowered by the Spirit, and sent to make disciples of all nations.

    The mission begins locally and extends to the ends of the earth. Two ordinances are observed: baptism by immersion following conversion, and the Lord’s Supper observed repeatedly as a proclamation of Christ’s death until He returns.

    Ephesians 4:4–6

    “There is one body and one Spirit — just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call — one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”

    1 Peter 2:9

    “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

  • We believe God progressively conforms all who are saved into the image of Christ by His Spirit through His Word in the community of His people.

    Sanctification flows from justification. The Spirit is the agent. The believer cannot produce fruit apart from the vine.

    Romans 8:29

    “For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.”

    Galatians 2:20

    “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

  • We believe in the personal, bodily, and glorious return of Jesus Christ, the resurrection of the dead, and the final judgment of all people.

    The redeemed enter eternal life in the presence of God. Those who reject the gospel face eternal, conscious separation from God.

    1 Thessalonians 4:16–17

    “For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.”

    Revelation 20:11–12

    “Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened… and the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.”
